Dominican Republic Adoption Program
PLEASE NOTE: We are currently not accepting applications for this program. Please call our office for further details before submitting your application form for this country.
Imagine Adoption works in conjuction with approved adoption lawyers in the Dominican who assist in facilitating the adoption process for Canadian families. The Dominican program is open to couples who have been married for 5 years and are between the ages of 30 - 60 years old..
Once your Canadian dossier has been prepared and approved, your translated and authenticated file will be forwarded to our lawyer who will present your file to CONANI (Family and Children's Services).
Once CONANI has matched a child with your family you will receive a child proposal.
Upon the adoptive applicants approving the child proposal they will prepare over the next few months to travel to the Dominican to co-habit with the child and finalize the adoption with the assistance of our lawyers.
At least one of the adoptive applicants is required to remain in the Dominican Republic for 60 days to fulfill a mandatory co-habitation period. This provides families with an opportunity to bond with their new child. Many women look forward to spending the beginning of their maternity leave bonding with the child in the child's native environment. Taking the time to learn about the culture and history of your child's birth place will enable you to better teach your child of their heritage as they grow and mature.
An Imagine Adoption representative will meet you at the airport upon your arrival and escort you to your accomodations. Imagine Adoption will arrange for you to stay in a furnished 2-bedroom apartment in Santo Domingo.
The Dominican Republic requires annual follow up reports until the child obtains his/her Canadian citizenship.
